A working, breathing "live" big band keeping the music of Charlie Mingus on our minds. The Mingus Big Band that night at the 2007 Chicago Jazz Festival included Artistic Director Sue Mingus making the opening statements followed by Ku-umba Frank Lacy's leadership and trombone playing. Ronnie Cuber, Jaleel Shaw, Vincent Herring, Seamus and Craig Handy were on saxophones. The trumpters were Tim Hagans and Lew Soloff with Orrin Evans on piano, bassist still undentified at this time and drummer Donald Edwards.
